MDPI Entropy | Information Theory Applied to Sociophysics
Dr. David Dominguez and Dr. Mario González-Rodríguez invite submissions for a special number on "Information Theory Applied to Sociophysics" that they are editing for the journal MDPI Entropy.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Sociophysics applies concepts from statistical physics and information theory to understand collective social phenomena emerging from interactions among many agents. Processes such as opinion formation, information spreading, polarization, and consensus can be modeled as stochastic dynamical systems whose macroscopic behavior arises from microscopic interaction rules.
Entropy plays a central role in this framework, providing quantitative measures of uncertainty, diversity, and order in social systems. From an information-theoretic perspective, social dynamics can be interpreted as the evolution of probability distributions over collective states, often exhibiting phase transitions, metastability, and relaxation toward stationary configurations.
This Special Issue aims to compile contributions that use entropy-based and statistical–mechanical approaches to model, analyze, and interpret social and socio-economic systems. We welcome theoretical, computational, and data-driven studies that advance the understanding of collective behavior from a sociophysics perspective.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Entropy and information-theoretic measures in sociophysics models;
- Opinion dynamics, consensus, polarization, and fragmentation;
- Information spreading, rumor dynamics, and social contagion;
- Socio-economic systems modeled as interacting particle systems;
- Phase transitions and critical phenomena in social dynamics;
- Stochastic and agent-based models of collective behavior;
- Network structure, heterogeneity, and their role in social entropy;
- The empirical validation of sociophysics models using social data.
Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Entropy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI’s English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
