Overview

The Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice is seeking a researcher for a 12-month fellowship (with the possibility of renewal or extension) to work on the SCIPLU project. Slated to begin on September 15, 2026, the successful candidate will work under the scientific supervision of Dr. Matteo Vagelli.

The SCIPLU project (funded by Next-GenerationEU - PNRR) aims to reactivate the discussion on scientific pluralism from a historical-philosophical perspective. Its primary objective is to analyze and resolve the contradictions that characterize some of the main contemporary versions of pluralism, which currently weaken its effectiveness in shaping science policy. In this study, the humanities and social sciences will play a central role, exploring the idea that science is composed of a plurality of different “styles” of thought and practice.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be deeply involved in the research activities of the SCIPLU project, contributing to the theoretical development and critical analysis of scientific pluralism. Specifically, the role involves:

Conducting a conceptual and systematic study of scientific pluralism and its associated problems.
Performing a historical-conceptual study of pluralist elements within the philosophical currents of historical epistemology and pragmatism.
Developing and analyzing at least one case study in the field of humanities/social sciences or biomedical sciences to apply and test the developed conceptual tools.
Collaborating on communication and dissemination activities related to the SCIPLU project, participating in the spread of research results in academic and public contexts.
