First International Conference of the Spanish Network for the Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence

The Spanish Network for the Philosophy of AI (reFIA) invites proposals for its First International Conference on the Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence, conceived as a forum for philosophical, interdisciplinary, and critical research on artificial intelligence and its social, epistemic, political, legal, ontological, and cultural transformations.

The conference will take place at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Faculty of Philosophy, Plaza Mazarelos, Santiago de Compostela, SPAIN) on November 5, 6, and 7, 2026. (Saturday, November 7, morning only).

Keynote speakers include:

• Mark Coeckelbergh (U. of Vienna)
• Adela Cortina (U. of Valencia)
• Javier Echeverría (Ikerbasque/JAKIUNDE)
• Migle Laukyte (U. Pompeu Fabra)
• Vincent C. Müller (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg)

We will especially welcome individual and panel contributions on the philosophy of AI that relate to ontology, epistemology, philosophy of technology, philosophy of mind, cognitive science, ethics, politics, law, and social studies of AI. Proposals addressing specific issues such as distributed responsibility, the right to explanation, algorithmic justice, democratic governance, artificial agency, epistemic opacity, artificial consciousness, generative models, the automation of labor, AI in education and health, computational creativity, the material sustainability of AI, and the normative limits of automation will be particularly encouraged.

Topics may include, yet will not be restricted to, the following thematic areas:

• Ontology and artificial agency
• Epistemology, opacity, and automated knowledge
• Philosophy of mind, cognition, and artificial intelligence
• Language, creativity, art, and generative models
• Ethics, responsibility, and algorithmic justice
• Law, regulation, and governance of AI
• Politics, democracy, and algorithmic power
• Philosophy of technology, work, and ways of life
• Social, environmental, and material impacts of AI
• History, imaginaries, and cultural critique of AI

(Other relevant philosophical, theoretical, or interdisciplinary contributions to the critical understanding of artificial intelligence are also welcome.)

Proposals both in English and Spanish are welcome.

Deadline for papers and panel proposals: July 31, 2026

Notification of acceptance: August 10, 2026

Proposals for individual papers must be anonymized and include the title and an abstract of no more than 1,200 words. Panel proposals must include the names of the participants and be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 500 words. In both cases, each proposal must include a separate file with a biographical note of approximately 150 words.
