This call is aimed at enabling the incorporation into the university of people who hold the title of Doctor in order to develop teaching and research capacities and, where appropriate, knowledge transfer and exchange, and to perform university governance functions.

Requirements

Those wishing to apply must demonstrate compliance with the following requirements within the application period and maintain them throughout the duration of the contract and any subsequent extensions:

  • Not to have been dismissed from service through disciplinary proceedings by any Public Administration nor to be disqualified by a final judgment from holding public office.
  • To hold a Doctoral degree.
  • No person may be hired through this modality, at the same or a different university, for a period exceeding six years.
  • The current accreditation of Assistant Professor or equivalent figure in the regional regulations, will be considered as a preferential merit, during the four years after the approval of Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, of the University System, for the purposes of access to the figure of Assistant Professor.
  • Speaking Spanish IS NOT a requirement.

Terms and Conditions

The contract will be temporary and full-time. Assistant Professors will teach up to a maximum of 180 hours per academic year, ensuring that their teaching duties are compatible with research activities necessary for their future accreditation.

The contract will be for a period of six years. After the first three years, a preliminary performance evaluation of the Assistant Professors will be conducted.

The calculation of the contract’s maximum duration and its evaluation will be interrupted during periods of temporary incapacity and during periods of leave, licenses, flexible working hours, and extended leave due to pregnancy, childbirth, adoption, guardianship for adoption purposes, foster care, breastfeeding, risk during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding, gender-based violence and other forms of violence against women, as well as for reasons of work-life balance or care of family members or dependents.

Likewise, when these situations result in a reduction of working hours, the contract will be extended for a period equivalent to the reduced working hours.

When the contract is entered into with a person with a disability, it may have a maximum duration of eight years, taking into account its purpose and the degree of limitations in activity.

The signing of contracts with foreign nationals from countries that are not members of the EU or that are not included in the scope of application of the International Treaties concluded by the EU. and ratified by Spain in which the free movement of workers applies, is conditional upon the interested parties having been granted an exception of work permit and legal residence in Spain, obtained within the maximum period of six months counted from the day after the publication of the award of the place.

Application

The application period will be 10 business days, starting the day after the announcement is published in the Official Electronic Bulletin of the Carlos III University of Madrid. The application period will begin at 2:00 p.m. (Spanish Peninsular Time) and end at 2:00 p.m. (Spanish Peninsular Time) on the last day of the period (November 26th of this year).

Documents to be submitted:

  • Application form available on the following website: https://aplicaciones.uc3m.es/convoca
  • National Identity Document (DNI/NIE)
  • Doctoral Degree
  • Curriculum Vitae or statement of merits in the standardized format (available on the website mentioned above), specifying the qualifications required for the position.
  • Proof of payment of the application fee (if applying for more than one position, the file must include all receipts) or, if applicable, documentation proving exemption from fees. Unemployed individuals must submit a certificate confirming their unemployment status, as well as an up-to-date employment history report.
  • A declaration stating that you have not held a contract as an Assistant Professor at any University or, if applicable, the length of the contract held, which must be less than the maximum time allowed in the position, in accordance with the regulatory framework.

The University reserves the right to demand at any time during the process the presentation of originals or supporting documents that it considers relevant to the documentation and information declared by the applicant.
